Capital City Baptist Church

One Church - Five Worship Services
Our worship services are a weekly celebration of the risen Christ and indepth teaching from the word of God. The church currently conducts five Sunday worship services: two are in English, one in Chichewa, one youth service and one Swahili service. A children's Sunday School is provided during the preaching period. There are currently several Cell Groups (Care cells) and small Bible study groups. On any given Sunday morning the church ministers to over 600 adults and children. In the English service, those in attendance come from different parts of the world. Many different denominational backgrounds are represented in both services as well as 40 different nations being represented in our congregation. The Chichewa, Youth and Swahili worship services respectively, continue to grow and are a vital part of the CCBC family.
The History
Capital City Baptist Church was born out of the will of God. Four couples from different parts of the world were led together to begin a home Bible study. All four were seeking to be spiritually ministered to in the English language. For several months in 1983 those couples met together and tried to involve others in their Sunday Bible studies. Many people come during those months but none become a regular part of the study. The Lord led the group to seek a public place to meet and to establish a church. On the last Sunday of September 1983, the first service was held with the four couples and three visitors in attendance. CCBC became an organized church on the third Sunday of November 1983 with twelve charter members. Work began on the constitution that was adopted in May of 1984. The church grew rapidly through organized outreach efforts. Many of those attending became involved in personal visits. The church met in two classrooms of the Malawi College of Accountancy, which the College offered rent-free.
From the outset the church prayed for land on which to construct its own church building. God miraculously provided five acres of land in the first two months of the churches life and by November 1986 a beautiful church building was dedicated to the glory of God. The church sanctuary seats approximately four hundred people. Apart from the sanctuary, the building has four offices, a meeting room, kitchen and restrooms. During 1989 a Sunday school building was completed which has a large common room and four classrooms. Since then those four classrooms have been expanded and now accommodates Christian Heritage School (CHS). CHS is a flourishing Christian Primary School of 310 students that teaches excellent through biblical truth and academics.
The church through membership, friends of members, and attendees has been able to provide all these facilities debt free. Only by being a part could one recognize the hand of God at work in the financial provisions. One of the reasons God's blessings have been on the church is its unselfish giving to other ministries. From the first Christmas the church has generously given gifts to children and adults in area hospitals. One church, the Lumbadzi Baptist Church near the international Airport, is now self supporting and was born out of the church's' mission activity as well as other church plants birth out of CCBC.
